K&F Concept M42-NZ — M42 → Nikon Z adapter
M42 (Pentax / Praktica 42 mm screw) lenses onto Nikon Z. Mechanical ring — no AF, no electronics. Most M42 lenses use an Auto/Manual switch (set to M) or a rear stop-down pin the flat adapter clears, so the aperture ring controls the diaphragm.

- IS: No IS
- Aperture: Manual aperture ring
- Infinity focus: Reaches infinity
What it does
M42's 45.46 mm register clears Nikon Z's 16 mm by 29.46 mm — the deepest mirrorless gap, so infinity is the most forgiving of any Z adapt. Fits Takumar, Helios, Industar, Jupiter and the rest of the vast M42 universe.
Common questions
- Does M42 reach infinity on Nikon Z?
- Easily — Z's very short 16 mm flange leaves nearly 30 mm of clearance under M42's 45.46 mm, so a glassless ring focuses past infinity with margin. No corrective optics needed.
- My M42 lens stays stopped-down or wide-open — how do I fix the aperture?
- If the lens has an Auto/Manual (A/M) switch, set it to M so the aperture ring drives the diaphragm directly. Lenses without the switch rely on a rear pin; a flat M42 adapter leaves the pin free so most stop down normally — a few need the pin taped or a pin-depressing adapter.
- Will the radioactive Takumar yellowing affect my Z photos?
- Some thoriated-glass Super-Takumars (55/1.8, 50/1.4) develop a warm/amber cast over decades. It's harmless and correctable in white balance, and a few days of strong UV / sunlight largely reverses it. It doesn't affect the adapter or the camera.
