What this adapter preserves
Compatibility for Contax lens on a Sony E body (computed from the lensmount dataset — open the Contax to Sony E adapter page for the full verdict, flange clearance, and adapter caveats).
- Focus: Manual focus only
- IS: No IS
- Aperture: Manual aperture ring
- Infinity focus: Reaches infinity
What it does
Flat glassless ring: the 45.5 mm C/Y flange clears Sony E's 18 mm by 27.5 mm, so infinity focus is preserved without corrective optics. Mechanically equivalent to K&F's Pro-line internals at a finish / sustainability premium.
Common questions
- Is the Urth Contax/Yashica to Sony E mechanically different from the K&F version?
- No measurable difference — comparable OEM Shenzhen internals, identical infinity-focus calibration and bayonet fit. Urth differentiates on anodised finish, plastic-free recycled packaging, a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects, and per-product tree planting. The adapter inside is approximately equivalent.
- Which C/Y lenses pair best with it on a Sony α?
- The Carl Zeiss Planar T* 50 mm f/1.4 and 85 mm f/1.4 are the headline adapts — the 85 in particular is a revered portrait lens. The Distagon 28 mm f/2.8, Sonnar 135 mm f/2.8, and the Tessar 45 mm f/2.8 pancake also adapt cleanly. All are manual-focus on this mechanical adapter.
- Does it have a close-focus helicoid?
- No — it's a flat ring that focuses to each lens's native minimum, nothing closer. There's no AF option for C/Y glass either (mechanical mount, no contacts); the appeal is the Zeiss rendering, not convenience features.
