What this adapter preserves

Compatibility for Canon EF lens on a Sony E body (computed from the lensmount dataset — open the Canon EF to Sony E adapter page for the full verdict, flange clearance, and adapter caveats).

  • Focus: Full AF
  • IS: IS / IBIS preserved
  • Aperture: Electronic aperture
  • Infinity focus: Reaches infinity

What it does

AF is contrast-detect biased on PDAF-capable Sony bodies — markedly slower than the Sigma MC-11 or Metabones EF-E V. Best for portrait, landscape, and other non-tracking work.

No firmware-update port; what ships in the box is what you get. Adequate as a second adapter or for backup, not as a primary AF path.

Common questions

Does the Fotodiox Pro EF-NEX support phase-detect AF on PDAF Sony bodies?
Only partially — it's contrast-detect biased even on PDAF-capable bodies, so AF is noticeably slower than the Sigma MC-11 or Metabones EF-E V.
Can I update its firmware?
No — Fotodiox didn't fit a USB port on this model. What ships in the box is the final behaviour; treat it as fixed-firmware hardware.
Is it usable as a primary EF-on-Sony adapter?
Better suited as a backup or for static-subject work (portrait, landscape). If you need tracking AF, the Sigma MC-11 or Metabones EF-E V is worth the price difference.
